Puren stands proud on podium

The track made for exciting high-speed drift battles and the 'corkscrew' manoeuvre by drivers certainly provided top-notch entertainment.

SPEED freaks were in for a visual treat at the non-stop action in the Supa Drift round four series at Dezzi South Coast Raceway last weekend.

South Africa’s top drifters gathered to compete for the top spot in tyre smoking, sideways action. The track made for exciting high-speed drift battles and the ‘corkscrew’ provided top-notch entertainment. Crowds and fans were in for a tyre slaying treat.

After a good practice run on Friday, the drivers had most of their lines and angles worked out for a full day of qualifying and tandem battles on race day.

There was no shortage of talent with drivers like Eric the Viking, Trevor and Gavin Puren, Chad Thomas, Zanil Satar, Jim McFarlane, Joey Govender and many more taking to the track.

Their fine-tuned smoke-churning machines lit up the track with tight tandems drift battles and serious smoke trails.

In the end, it was the talented Margate driver Gavin Puren who won the Supa Drift round four series. Gavin said he was certain there would be fierce competition and there was. “Drivers are always going to be pushing the limits and come for you when you are on top, but I expected nothing less from the challengers.”
