Terrific fightback from tennis pair

A new duty list is up at the club and has also been circulated to all members so please check to see when you are on duty and swap with someone if necessary.

WHAT a wind those at Umtentweni Tennis Club had to contend with last Saturday.

Nevertheless, there were three courts in action and a real nail-biting match took place when Angus Black and Isabeau le Roux played against Colin Barker and Jean Marx.

At 5-5 in games, Jean was serving and was 15-40 down. The writing was on the wall – or so it seemed.

Jean and Colin managed to claw their way back into the game and emerge the winners.

Of course, the wind played a big factor in all the games and no-one was certain where the ball would land.

It was really great to have Jesse Verster back on the court and Matt Holmes was a welcome visitor, giving the men several well-contested sets as well.

Members are pleased to hear that Ugu tennis chairman, Ian Ackerman, is recovering well from his knee op and wish him a speedy full recovery.

Raj Naganna was back on the courts with all his crafty shots and seems to have recovered from his bout of ‘flu.

Members wish Liesl Smith and Shauna Hudson a happy day as they celebrate their birthdays on the 4th and 6th respectively.

A new duty list is up at the club and has also been circulated to all members so please check to see when you are on duty and swap with someone if necessary.

Saturday duty: September 7 – Helgard du Preez; September 14 – Foxy Norton.
