Striders champs done and dusted

Sponsored athletes Peter and Deborah will be participating in the Hollywood Bets 10km race this Sunday.

South Coast Striders held its 10km champs at Uvongo fishing pier last Saturday.
It was a 06:00 start in very pleasant running weather.

A total of 25 runners participated.

Smashing first place in the male category was Peter Greyson, Sanele Wayise took second place and Patrick Khuluse placed third. On the women’s side, Deborah Berridge placed first with Ziyanda Matandabuzo taking second place and Lynn van der Merwe in third.

Ziyanda was pleased with herself as she had bettered her time from last year.

In the junior category, Andrew Lattin took first place.

Chairperson, Bongani Mbhele along with committee members helped to set up the starting point.

David Alderson-Smith manned the 2.5km turnaround point while Kim Jones was the timekeeper. Corinne Parsons and Tess Mundle registered all participants, which included a Covid-19 register, noting temperatures and keeping to current regulations.

Face masks were worn at the start and finish lines and sanitiser was used regularly to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Although the turnout was small, everyone was jovial and thoroughly enjoyed the morning run.

Cash prizes were awarded to eight people and Southcoast Mall kindly donated water, bottles and bags to runners.

The South Coast Striders AGM will be held at the club on December 4 at 15:00.
There are some important items on the agenda and 2022 committee nominations will also take place.

This will be combined with a prizegiving as well as a bring and braai.

Club membership registration for 2022 can be done on the day and the fee remains at R350, licence price will be given when available. All Covid-19 protocols are to be adhered to.
