Hole-in-one for Russell Cummings

Peter Toward secured third place, also by count out from Reg Clark on 35 points. Methinks the handicapper will need to do some chopping Jeremy.

The notoriously tough par 3 4th hole at Umkomaas Golf Club served up another hole-in-one, the third in 2021.

This time it was Russell Cummings who secured the ace, his third overall.

Chatting to Russell and playing partner Nigel Hensen at the weekend, both agreed there wasn’t any doubt that it was a good shot, but sadly as the green is raised, none of the players saw it finish out.

It was only once they got to the green and realised a ball was missing that they looked into and discovered the ball in the hole. Congratulations Russell.

It was another week of wins for Jeremy Boyd whose 38 points secured him victory in last Wednesday’s IPS competition. He counted out Warren Taylor.

Peter Toward secured third place, also by count out from Reg Clark on 35 points. Methinks the handicapper will need to do some chopping Jeremy.

And last Saturday, Jeremy and partner Reg Clark scored 39 points in the Betterball to take third place. Twins Christo and Max Van Den Heever combined well to post 40 points for second place. Neil De Villiers and Wally Kent dovetailed perfectly and emerged victorious on 41 points.

With the festive season around the corner, Umkomaas #thefriendliestclub is looking forward to welcoming visitors and members alike.

Our newly revamped clubhouse, including covered balcony overlooking the ocean, is the perfect spot to enjoy a cold drink and some delicious food from The Bunker Café who have had everyone raving since they took over the kitchen last month.

Umkomaas is proudly hosting the Khanya Hospice fundraising golf day on the public holiday, Thursday, December 16 and we encourage all to support this worthy cause. R250 per player gets you into the Betterball competition and there are great prizes on offer.

The ladies Christmas Alliance, always a highlight, is scheduled for Saturday, December 11.

There are lots of prizes on offer, and the entrance fee includes a snack platter and live music for after the golf. Visitors are welcome.
