Surfer Jordy excels in local, provincial contests
When asked if he would be looking to further his career and become a professional surfer, Jordy described the possibility as a dream come true and will be able to fully chase the dream having now completed his matric.
Local surfer Jordan ‘Jordy’ Boshoff is beginning to make the rounds in both the local and provincial surf scene after competing and excelling in four surfing competitions.
After spending 10 days at the SA open championships as part of the Ugu district team, which was his first, Jordy made it to the round where he came up against the defending SA champ and the current KZN champ.
“It made for a very challenging but fun heat. Only the top two of each heat progress further,” Jordy said.
He then went on to compete as part of the Port Shepstone High team in the KZN interschools which saw the team finish third, while Jordy achieved a second place in the individual section after a tightly contested final.
“When competing with the school team it creates a lot of pressure to perform and you know your team is counting on you but it is also great to have the team encouraging each other. When competing individually you have more time to choose waves and you are able to focus more on wave selection,” Jordy said.
He then competed in the O’Neill SMTH shapes pro junior ( JQS 1000) event, where he finished in fifth place respectively, which was followed by the the O’Neill Ballito Pro (QS 5000) where valuable experience was gained that saw him compete against professional surfers.

“It was very exciting competing in both these events as they are run by the World Surf League so everything is very professionally done. My focus was on the pro junior division as it is for u20s and my 5th place meant that I earned valuable points going forward into the 2022 junior qualifying series,” Jordy said. “
When asked if he would be looking to further his career and become a professional surfer, Jordy described the possibility as a dream come true and will be able to fully chase the dream having now completed his matric.
“That would be a dream come true but the reality is that it is not an easy path to become a professional surfer but I do hope that surfing will feature in whichever career path I choose.”

Jordy’s father Louis Boshoff spoke about how proud he was of his son’s hard work and that he would continue to support his son.
“I am very proud of his determination and the dedication he shows towards his surfing. Without parental support it makes it very difficult for children to achieve their goals, however it is essential that the ambition to succeed comes from the child not the parent,” he said.
