Village Eagles predict great golfing year

Best lady was Heather Parsonage who scored 33 individual points and best man was Ian Lovett with 38 points. Well played all.

It was the first Tuesday of the month, in fact it was the first Tuesday of the year, so the Village Eagles headed to Umkomaas Golf Club to begin their 2022 golf journey.

The weather was perfect, the golf course was in tip top shape and the scores were good, so if the rest of the year is going to be like last Tuesday was, well what a great golfing year we are going to have.

I did wonder what happened to Santa this year as no new clubs, bags, drivers, shorts or shirts were on display. Then I remembered that the houses in the retirement villages do not have chimneys. Next year we will have to lend Santa one of our golf carts.

The membership of the Village Eagles continues to grow and catering for close to and sometimes more than 70 players each month has become the norm. Calculating the results after each game has now become a technical challenge which was met and defeated by Stella Scott, Gus Crous and Les Vince.

The winners (from left) Carl Mau, Steve Padgett, Ian Mackenzie and Alistair Eyres.

Thanks guys and Stella for your time and effort.

At the prizegiving, our fines master Derek Hodge saw to it that any behaviour outside of what is known as golf etiquette was punished.

With a new year starting, the fines collected will go a long way in restoring the bank balance. Thanks must go to our sponsors who enable us to give out prizes up to eighth place.

Also thanks to the management of Umkomaas, to Charmaine in the pro shop and Hayley in the clubhouse for their organisation, lovely snacks and hosting skills.

Our visit to Umkomaas was a very pleasant one thanks to you all.

This report would not be complete if the winners on the day did not see their names in print, so, winners on the day were Steve Padgett, Alistair Eyres, Carl Mau and Ian Mackenzie on a reasonable 85 points.

Best lady was Heather Parsonage who scored 33 individual points and best man was Ian Lovett with 38 points. Well played all.

We look forward to the first Tuesday of February when we will all meet and repeat the exercise at Scottburgh Golf Club.
