There were some fine catches yet again last weekend, as South Coast fishermen proved why they are some of the best in the country.

Angler Corri le Roux, proved once again that no fish is too hard to catch, as he reeled in a lovely 14kg yellowfin tuna. Using an 18kg tuna setup as tackle, Le Roux caught it at Protea Banks on a charter boat.

Devon Alexander caught a shad also known as an elf or blue fish at the Margate pier.

Meanwhile local angler, Devon Alexander of Ramsgate caught an impressive shad (also known as elf or blue fish) using a 30 lbs maxima line and live mullet as bait at the Margate pier.

With his catch weighing in at 5.5kg, the local businessman described this as one of his best.

“The fish gave me an amazing fight and even jumped out of the water whilst it was still deep in the sea. It was really a great experience,” he said.

A little further up the coast in Pumula, Myuran Moodley of Marburg caught a 112cm cobia, which is commonly known as ‘prodigal son’. Assisted by Arne van Niekerk, the fish was released safely back into the ocean.
