Premier league opener looms

The other four players are all from Southbroom, namely Gavin Sole, David Rush, Jean-Marc Bouic and Kai Hielckert.

The Southern KwaZulu-Natal golf team will start its premier league campaign with a fixture against Umhlali Country Club this Sunday.

Two of the regions top players, Jason Gilliver and Jack Cubitt, unfortunately won’t be available.

Jason is starting a new job and Jack is playing in the Gauteng North Open.

Chris Zietsman, Selborne Park’s current club champion, will be in action for Southern KZN this Sunday.

However, Jan McDermott, Graham Fabricius and Matt Sutherland, all members at Umdoni Park, are looking forward to the match, as is Chris Zietsman of Selborne Park.

The other four players are all from Southbroom, namely Gavin Sole, David Rush, Jean-Marc Bouic and Kai Hielckert.

The team gained promotion from the A division back to premier last year and will look to build on that success.

After the Umhlali match, there’s a home fixture against Royal Durban on February 13, followed by an away game at Beachwood on February 27.

Then there’s a bit of a break, with the eagerly anticipated KZN Interzone tournament due to be played at Eshowe Hills from March 25 to 27.

A number of the Southern KZN players could make the team to play in the SA Country Districts IPT at Sishen in May, most notably Jack and Matt.

Jason, Gavin, Jan and Chris will not be eligible for selection as the first two have played for the main KZN team and the other two for the Mid Amateur team.

According to the GolfRSA pecking order for team selection, it rules them out.

However, it does give opportunity to others.

League resumes again on June 5 with a home game against Mount Edgecombe CC.

Then, if they top the pool or finish, they will have a home or away semi-final, respectively.

The final, should they reach that, will be played at a neutral venue.
