Sheppie cricketers triumph at Harding Festival

The Port Shepstone Country Club cricket team produced some entertaining cricket to win the recent Harding T20 Cricket Festival.

In the first game Harding played Kokstad and the hosts were on fire, with with Matt Nothard (87) and Noel Kjonstad (77) involved in a 156 run partnership.

It was tough work for the Kokstad boys as Harding scored 214/3 in 20 overs.

In reply Kokstad found it very difficult as Payne brothers Matt and Tyrone ripped through their batting, bowling them out for 33.

In the second game, Sheppie played Kokstad, lost the toss and had to bowl first.

Kokstad managed a more respectable 98 for 6, thanks in part to nine dropped catches.

Top scorers were Kyle Pride (26) and Rob Lapperson (24).

Juan Dixon and Rowan Schoeman were the pick of the bowlers for Sheppie.

In reply, Sachin Kalkapersad (30) and man of the match Dixon (46 not out) guided Sheppie to a comfortable eight wicket win.

This set things up for crunch game against Harding, where Sheppie won the toss and batted first.

In a slow start, with the early loss of wickets, Sheppie were in trouble until Dixon stepped up and smashed 47 runs to ensure a reasonable score was posted, 129.

Tyrone Payne and James Marais were the pick of the bowlers for Harding.

It was always going to be close, but the Sheppie bowlers stepped up and restricted Harding to 115 for seven despite a late effort by Matt Payne, who top scored with 42.

Sheppie duly won the game by 13 runs to be crowned champions.

Sheppie captain, Rowan Schoeman, thanked all those involved in making the tournament the success it was.
