Golfers look forward to cooler weather
Moving up the rankings from last Saturday's third place, John Mills and Kevin Reimer nailed their colours to the mast with a 45 point total in a betterball Stableford.
Well that’s the end of the first month of the year, when we look again the year will be approaching it’s end game.
After the last couple of weeks’ heat and humidity, we’ll be looking forwards to winter and some cooler weather, but not before February rears its ugly head.
After the Hall/Jooste domination of the past few Wednesdays at Scottburgh Golf Club, they were at last dethroned, basically because Bob was on leave and Deanne incapacitated.
Moving up the rankings from last Saturday’s third place, John Mills and Kevin Reimer nailed their colours to the mast with a 45 point total in a betterball Stableford.
Coming four points further back, Denis Brown and Wayne Simpson on 41.
Once again the hidden holes took refuge and no 2 clubs were recorded. The Flyer had the privilege of playing with brand new member Gerrie Hattingh. Gerrie had a two-year lay off due to Covid, but he’s back and joined Scotties.
Everyone’s game goes off after a layoff, but watch this man he’s going to be featured in the column before long. Gerrie partnered Janet Beckerly and Gerrie unfortunately was introduced to our famous Stone, but just wait for his game to come right!
It was monthly medal time last Saturday sponsored once again by our Local Choice Pharmacy and we welcomed back Dave Beckerly who joined wife Janet for a couple of weeks.
Janet came and went in December for two weeks as the UK closed down its borders and Janet had to go back, but they’re here again enjoying our hospitality.
The cool weather came as predicted and most welcome it was.
In the A division, Leorin Pillay took the best gross with 70 and Nivash Mahabeer had a 68 for the best nett.
John Mills continued his recently found form by winning the best nett in B division and Tony Moore had an 85 for the best gross.
Tony Power had 36 points to win the C division followed by Brian Richards with 34, Nivash winning the medal for January.
The Alliance was won by the favourites Brian Richards, Denis Brown, Tony Moore and Wayne Simpson. Stone Last was not a problem as Mick Marriot, Geoff Thommasen, Anton Visage and Johan Barnard made like Donald and “ducked” after 9 holes, their names are recorded for fines outstanding.
This Wednesday (2nd) and Saturday (5th) will be betterball Stablefords and the time sheets are on the board.
Flyer’s footnote: As every golfer knows, no one ever lost his mind over one shot. It’s rather a gradual process, knowing that you’ve found a different way to bogey each hole.
