‘Old school winners’ victorious at Scottburgh

Our Local Choice Pharmacy sponsors our monthly medals and was played this week in splendid golfing weather.

It was back to the old school winners at Scottburgh Golf Club last Wednesday as Tony Power (not seen for a while) carded 36 individual points to take first place.

Another regular, I’m surprised he’s not on my predictive text, Denis Brown had 33 to take second place. Wayne Simpson another regular lifted Stone Last, must be a first.

Pumba Joubert left the office early last Friday to take a crack at the 3 Fs – Fairway, Friday, and Fivepin and wasn’t disappointed. He scored 12 to add R200 to his pay cheque with Darren Walker second and R100 richer for his 11 points, just in time to beat the chancellor’s tax increase on tipple.

Gay Jones our local ‘sparky’ was in electrifying form as he scored 41 individual points which reverted to a nett 64 to easily take the February mug.

With most of the A division away, Barry Kisten had the field to himself and took the nett prize with 73.

In the B division, Thys Swart back after some time on the bench, shot a 69 to take the nett with Tony Moore the gross with 81.

The runner-up in C division to winner Gary was again Tony Power with 35.

Winning the Alliance with 90 points Tony Moore led his team of Dudley Palmer, Hilton McAuliffe and Mike Hogan up to the podium.

Vice captain Coenie du Bruyne led his team of John Mills, Mick Marriott and Deanne Jooste up to pay for the polishing of the Stone for their miserable performance.

Wednesday and Saturday are both betterball Stablefords and don’t forget the 3Fs.

The Sardine Run committee is working hard to get this year’s tournament into gear. The usual sponsors are being ‘tapped’, but are looking to attract a few more to take part in the town’s well-known tournament.

Flyer’s footnote: Driving bad, chipping bad, putting bad, not scoring? Don’t worry, you’re still the right side of the grass.
