Scottburgh nippers shine at KZN champs

Twenty nine boys and girls from Scottburgh Nippers Lifesaving Club shone bright on Marine Beach in Durban last weekend with their new kits, team spirit and outstanding accomplishments.
A number of businesses in Scottburgh contributed to kit the nippers and their coaches in smart, eye catching uniforms.
From the moment the boys and girls set foot on the beach for warm-ups, it was obvious that the club spirit was going to be a force to be reckoned with.
With months of dedicated training in the ocean, on the beach and in the swimming pool, the Scottburgh nippers achieved astonishing results for a relatively small South Coast club.
“It was a true team effort, as each of our members contributed to the success,” said nipper officer Keith Jones.
“Our team placed fourth out of eight clubs in KZN, while individuals won five gold, nine silver and 12 bronze medals. It’s important to remember that nearly all our team members contributed to the overall success, as competitors scored points right down to eighth position.”
The five gold medal winners were Grace Westerdale, Leah Le Pront and Olivia Cox (who won three gold medals).
The nine silver medals were won by Abbey Jones, Annabella Edwards, Blake Vincent, Olivia Cox, Louise Le Pront (four medals) and the U12 taplin relay (Leah Le Pront, Haylie le Roux and Griffin Harris).
The 12 bronze medals were won by Annabella Edwards, Bastiaan Prinsloo, Blake Vincent, Grace Westerdale, Griffin Harris, Haylie le Roux, Holleigh van Achterbergh, Leah Le Pront (two medals), Mia Diamond and Louise Le Pront (two medals).
At the end of the two-day event, Louise Le Pront was announced as the winner of the U14 girls age group and Olivia Cox the winner of the U9 girls age group.
Leah Le Pront finished in third place in the U12 girls age group, while fourth places went to Bella Edwards (U11 girls), Grace Westerdale (U10 girls), Blake Vincent (U9 boys). Abbey Jones (U14 girls) ended in fifth place.
“After working so hard throughout the season, the Scottburgh nippers deserved their success at last weekend’s championships,” added the proud nipper officer.
