Vossie Vosloo caught the heaviest tilapia which weighed 1.77kg.

The 2022 edition of the Paddock Fishing Competition, back in full force after a forced break since 2019, continued the rich and successful history of this popular family event.

Anglers came from far and wide and braved the cold, wet weather to prove themselves in the individual categories, as well as the team events.

The food did not disappoint once again with delicious meals being served.

About 140 campers set up tents around the club with over 400 people casting their lines throughout the weekend.

The most fish came out of Eric Dunstone’s dam, the total weight from this dam a whopping 204.365kg.

The biggest bass of the year was caught by James de Villiers and weighed at 3.52kg (caught at Billy Vorster’s dam, 10B).

Vossie Vosloo caught the heaviest tilapia which weighed 1.77kg.

The father and son combination of Ian and Wesley Sparkman, named Big Mac, won the men’s team event, recording a total catch of 38.23kg.

Team Wrinkles and Pimples, made up of Karen Snyman, Lana Vosloo and Kayla Vosloo, managed to place first in the ladies category and bagged a total of 20.59kg of fish.

Johan Mahoney, Daphne Scholtz, Wayne Carter and Tasja Carter from team Bite Me won first prize in the mixed team category with 28.095kg of fish.

The winning high school team was made up of Fred Marshall-Smith, Sven Bunge, Liam Classen and Kelli Ashington from team Bass Buggers.

They caught a total of 21.215kg.

Junior team winners were Xayden Putter, Jaden Scheepers and Matthew Scheepers from team Mowpro Junior, they caught 11.360kg.

Prizes to the value of R235 000 were handed to winning fishermen as well as lots of lucky draw entrants.

These prizes were sponsored by the many companies who work closely with the local farmers and the community is grateful for the continued support of this event by these business owners.

The farmers and their families were thanked for preparing dams and working tirelessly to make the event a success.
