Keep off the grass sign ‘fools’ golfers
The course is playing long at the moment, the fairways are still soft after the recent rains, but the greens are in good shape holding a good pitch shot and rolling beautifully.
There was some consternation by the Friday players of the five pin competitions at Scottburgh Golf Club, as they were met by a sign saying ‘please keep off the grass’.
It took a few visits to the manager’s office to clear up the reasoning, after all, how do you manage to obey the sign? Was the greenkeeper in a bad mood?
Reminding them of the date (April 1st) all was revealed, the perpetrator of the joke was fined the usual R10 last Saturday night, modesty forbids me to name him.

Tony Power enjoyed them as he scored 34 points last Wednesday to win by one from Mick Marriot. Deanne Jooste after losing his cool and his 4 iron made some amends by having the only 2 club.
We had a host of visitors last Saturday all vying to win first place in the Umthunzi Hotel sponsored day.
Les Huddle down with the family will be spending a two night stay valued at R4000 at the hotel in Umtentwini after scoring 40 points to win by three from Bob Hall who won an overnight stay at the same venue.
Third was Tony Power and nearest the pins went to; Liaghn Moolman 2nd, Denis Brown 5th, Gary Jones 10th, Bob Hall 13th and Barry Kisten 17th.
Ian Walker picked the right holes for the jackpot and surprisingly not one of the nearest the pin winners rolled in their birdies.
Mick Marriot picked up his winnings for last Wednesday and then gave it back for the Stone Last’s upkeep. John Ridl popped in for a beer last Saturday and walked away R500 richer after picking the Joker card. The prizemoney was R5000, but John generously took just the R500 and gave the club the remaining R4500, your very good health sir.
We are still looking for a few more volunteer buggy drivers for the Joberg2c cyclists at the end of the month, so please leave your details with the office if you are keen to help.
Our thanks go this week to Johan Barnard from the Shell garage in town for the new flags that now adorn the greens. Unfortunately, flags do not seem to last too long with our weather and the sponsorship of the flags is greatly appreciated.
This Wednesday (6th) is a betterball Stableford and the Scottburgh Lions Club will be hosting a 4 ball Alliance on Saturday (9th).
The proceeds from this day go towards various projects in the district and for other good things that they do, so come along and support this very worthy cause.
Flyer’s footnote: If you’re afraid a full shot might reach the green whilst the foursome ahead of you are still putting, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay up or wait until the green is clear and top the ball halfway there.
