Interprov call ups for Umkomaas golfers

A Division was won by Jordan Bernardis who scored 37 points, one ahead of nearest rival Brian Kassel.

Umkomaas is thrilled to have two of its golfers representing the province in the next couple of weeks.

Following her representation at the Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) in Cape Town late last year, Sabiha Bacaus Hulley has also been selected to compete in the inaugural Ladies Mid-Amateur (30 – 50 years) IPT as part of the KZN team. This will take place at Parys GC from May 1 to 4.

Noel Parsonage is currently at Heron’s Bank in the Free State, competing as part of the KZN Super Seniors side for their IPT and we wish him well.

Both sides look to have some excellent – and consistent – players and we look forward to hearing how they fare as they take on their rivals from across the country. Our best wishes for long drives, and short putts go with Sabiha and Noel.

Christo van den Heever continues to play great golf and we’re pleased to see his handicap dropping as he gains more experience in the game. His nett 66 saw him take home the Halfway Malanda Monthly Mug for the second time in the year. He secured top spot in the C division prizes too with 40 points. Well done.

Twin sister, Max van den Heever, narrowly missed out on lifting the ladies Monthly Glass, when she was counted out on a level-par 73 nett by Sabiha Bacaus Hulley. She took top honours in the Bronze division, whilst Sabiha collected first prize in the Silver.

Despite many choosing not to play, with weather predictions of 100% rain throughout the day, those that did ‘brave’ the forecast were rewarded with a spectacular day on the course. Cool weather, not a drop of rain, and light breezy conditions were reflected in the good scores posted. Seems the adage, don’t trust the weatherman is true.

A Division was won by Jordan Bernardis who scored 37 points, one ahead of nearest rival Brian Kassel.

B Division was decided by count-out on 36 points, with Leon Brummer edging out Steve Oliver.

C Division had a clear winner in Christo van den Heever on 40 points, with closest competitor Harold Horsley finishing up with 31 points.

The greens were running true, and seven players scooped up 2-clubs, including Sabiha Bacaus Hulley, Brian Kassel, Leon Brummer, Mike Madsen, Jeremy Boyd, Ian Reid and Steve Oliver.

Riek Jansen van Rensburg’s 10 points on this week’s chosen holes was enough to see him lone winner of the jackpot.

Captain Graeme Coxell’s good form, especially in the midweek IPS format, continued and he top scored with 39 points to take first prize yet again. Second and third place were decided by count-out on 36 points with Steve Oliver pipping Donald Bradshaw.

A slew of players with 35 points jostled for the last remaining paying spots, with count-outs deciding the order: Brian Kassel, Brian Stephen and Willy Boucher edging Harold Horsley out the prizes.
