Swimmers shine at regional meets

Brent Kemp won two gold and two silver medals with Winé Koekemoer winning two silver medals in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke races.

Blue Ocean Aquatics Swim Club members Nelzaan Strydom and Gemma Allchin took part in the South African National Junior Regional Championship in Durban and came away with personal best times and medals.

Gemma Allchin won three gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events, while Nelzaan Strydom placed third in the 1500m freestyle event.

Two weeks prior to this event there was the Level 3 regional swimming championship meet in Durban, where Stella Jorgensen won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke race.

Brent Kemp won two gold and two silver medals with Winé Koekemoer winning two silver medals in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke races.

Hannah Parry won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke, Callum Robinson won two silver medals and a bronze medal.

Wian van Wyk won a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke event and two silver medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke races.

Dian Venter came home with three gold medals in the three breaststroke events and a silver medal in the 200m IM.

Producing some excellent times are (from left) Callum Robinson, Brent Kemp, Dian Venter, Winé Koekemoer and Hannah Parry.

In total, the club won three gold and one bronze at the SANJ meet, 18 medals at Level 3 regionals (six gold, 10 silver and two bronze) and at Level 2 regionals BOA won 34 medals (13 gold, 14 silver and seven bronze).

Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers have worked very hard over the last two years with Covid restrictions, and the perseverance has paid off.
