Fishermen report some good catches

Sardines are making their way up from the Eastern Cape.

Mother Nature seemed to take control and dished out some terrible weather for anglers along the coast.

With the poor weather last weekend, not much has been reported by the weekend warriors. Those who managed to fish during the week experienced some very good catches in Southport, Ramsgate and along the Mzimkhulu River.

Ian Logie had a good week as he bagged two bronze breams. Probably the catch of the week goes to Pieter Lamont with a kob he caught at Ramsgate. There has been some reports of shad on the bite but not much along the coast. Some guys had some luck with perch on the river. Reports have indicated that the Mzimkhulu River is looking good, but beware of the Zambezi shark.

The indications are all positive that the sardines are making their way up from the Eastern Cape towards KwaZulu-Natal. The KZN Sharks Board conducted an observation flight last Thursday, and noticed an increase in shark activity at Grosvenor. Hopefully in a week or two the silver fish will hit our shores and bring in some good game fish.

Safety tips
Fish are most active during dawn and dusk. Pay attention to weather fronts coming through as fish tend to feed most before a cold front and in the middle of a warm front. Light rain is beneficial for fishing as it stirs up surface food, while heavy rain leads to less active fish.
