Naickers win alliance league on excellent score of 87
Coming in second, just 3 points back, were The Freddies – Peter Toward, Alan Eriksen, Tallies Taljaard and Lucas De Bruyn.
It has been a tough several weeks for the golfing community with the heavy rains causing havoc on so many of our beautiful KZN courses.
Thankfully, our course built largely on dunes has a natural drainage system which has seen it spared any real damage.
A handful of holes, mostly on the top part of the course, tend to get muddy after continuous rain and with the water table still so high, the last weekend of rain has led to our greenkeeper closing these holes again for a week or two to allow them to dry out.
Our club competitions continue, however on the 9-hole loop, played twice, and we’ve been delighted to welcome visitors from all over, including Toti, Bluff, and Royal whose courses have taken a beating.
We are proud to have once again received many compliments about the condition of our course, particularly our greens and thanks go to Devlyn and the greens team, as well as the many members who give of their time to help improve our course.
The fourth Alliance League of 2022 was contested by 72 players, but was won on an excellent score of 87 points by The Naickers, the team made up of father and son Tom and Dean Naicker, and Viv Gouden, and Kuben Naidoo.
Coming in second, just 3 points back, were The Freddies – Peter Toward, Alan Eriksen, Tallies Taljaard and Lucas De Bruyn. In third place on 83 points was the Boytjies and Harlequins team made up of Raj Ramapathy, Bruce Sutcliffe, Max van der Heever and Linda Toward.
Dean Naicker took the Jackpot on an impressive 11 points, especially considering he only got a shot on one of the four holes selected. He also received his share of the Two Club pot for his two birdies. Wally Kent also managed to bag two two-clubs, while the rest of the pot was shared by Ryan Nortje, Frank Blom, Tallies Taljaard and Saga Reddy.
Alan Munn’s excellent 39 points saw him take top honours in the mid-week IPS competition. Martin Tait came in second, just 1 point back, and third place was won by Simon van den Bosch on 36 points. Alan Eriksen took fourth and Chris Viljoen counted out four others to take the final prize spot on 34 points.
The KidzGolfers were back with a bang this past weekend. It was so encouraging to see how excited they all were and delightful to see that they’ve not forgotten the basics. There was some excellent hitting on show on the range.
A special word of good luck to two of our ladies, Sabiha Hulley and Natalie Singer, who will once again represent South Coast Region at the 2022 KZN Inter Region competition. In a new format, rounds one and two of the competition will take place next weekend at Prince’s Grant. All the best ladies!
