Masters runner-up in line-up for annual competition
It was a beautiful day for golf, even the ladies were decked out in summer attire.
It’s Sardine time again, how time flies.
We start this week on Thursday with 34 teams taking part. I heard a whisper that a Masters runner-up is also on the time sheet he’ll be staying in Umkomaas so that’s the only clue I’m giving you.
You know who your friends are when you pair up for a Combined Stableford. Generally heard “is my friend on the green or is the prat in the kitty litter again”.
Brian Richards didn’t get a partner this week and had to put up with the ghost of Scottburgh known as Spoekie. The latter named didn’t do too well last week as his partner had to lift the Stone on his behalf, but this week he and Brian won with 60 points, Spoekie generously donated his winnings to the Captain’s fund.
Running the winners a close second, Wayne Simpson and Andrew Imrey made 59 to be pipped at the post. Becoming a regular feature Dave Sirey and Anton Visage each took a corner of the Stone and least said about hidden holes and 2 clubs the better.

A good turnout for Saturday’s Individual Stableford sponsored by Umthunzi Hotel and Conference centre. There were quite a few visitors playing and some early Sardine run players getting the feel of the course.

Club President Ian Walker will be taking Lynelle away for a well earned two night break at the hotel after winning with 38 points. Barry Kisten came a close second also with 38 points, but sadly losing out to the count out rule, nevertheless an overnight stay for Barry and Charmaine will be his reward.
Local “treffer” Herman Grotius was third with 36 and nearest the pins went to; Brian Olsen 2nd, Sean Prendergast 5th, Pete Gilliver 10th, Gary Jones 13th and Barry Kisten 17th.
Dudley Palmer found the illusive hidden holes and 2 clubs were rolled in by Peter Davidson, Geoff Thommasen and Deane Jooste, surprisingly the nearest the pin winners couldn’t convert. Someone has to have the least number of points and this week that dubious honour fell to Alan Hawkins.
Wednesday is an Individual Stableford to get the players ready for Thursday and the start of our annual tournament. The barometer is set fair and if you’re not playing please come along and enjoy the festivities in the evening and have a meal at the same time. Wishing all players a great week and may your drives be true and your putts even truer.
Flyer’s Footnote: Losing a ball in a hazard is acceptable, but losing one in the ball washer – well it’s time to take stock of your game.
