Sardines:
The sardine fun is in full swing and what excitement, it brought out thousands of people after the first shoal of the silver ribbons were netted on Margate Beach last Friday.
The cold front certainly helped and seine netters were on high alert since early Friday morning from Port Edward to St Mike’s Beach.
Well it all went down at Margate Beach at about midday and netters were fast to net the pilot shoals. About four nets totalling about 750 crates of sardines were caught.
On the fishing side, reports were good and many die-hard fishermen enjoyed the weekend catching garrick, kob, shad and shark up north at Amanzimtoti.
Locally fishing was not too bad at ‘The Block’ in Port Shepstone and Margate Pier, Pumula and Sunwich Port with shad on the bite. Remember to send your catch of the day to sugann@dbn.caxton.co.za.
