Impressive black mussel cracker catch for Clayton Hugo

The main shoal is heading this way.

It seems that in terms of local fishing it has been a quieter week than usual. For some the fishing along the coast was okay and no guesses as to what moved the shad and the bigger fish to probably deeper waters. Yes, it can only be the sardines which were reported to be in deeper waters.

Sea conditions were not all good for the rock and surf guys but there were a few shad out from Margate to Port Edward. Clayton Hugo had a promising week of fishing when he caught a 19.66kg black mussel cracker and a 7.2kg garrick at Margate. Well done to Clayton on these catches.

Liam van der Merwe and Sean Langer caught rock salmon on the Mzimkhulu River. Local fisherman, Ian Logie said nothing major had been coming out as sea conditions were bad. “Fishing along the mighty river was promising at the weekend. There has been some nice weather, hopefully, the sea calms down a bit which will improve rock and surf fishing along the coast.”

On Monday this week there were reports of a huge shoal of sardines at Qhora mouth, Eastern Cape. This was accompanied by dolphins and gannets. So hopefully another bigger shoal is heading to KZN waters soon.
