Scottburgh GC elects new committee
The club's president and vice president were re-elected, and the new committee is wished well.
Scottburgh Golf Club held a well attended AGM last Tuesday night.
The club president, Ian Walker opened the meeting giving an overview of the previous year’s affairs and congratulated the winners of the various club competitions. He was followed by the club captain, Bob Hall, who also highlighted the various changes that occurred during the year mainly the restaurant and changes to the stroke indices of some holes whereby the men and ladies now use the same stroke index throughout.
The new committee was heralded in with Ian Walker and Colin Moodie re-elected as president and vice president respectively. Bob Hall was also re-elected as captain with Coenie du Bruyn standing as vice. The new committee members are: Hilton McAuliffe, Wayne Simpson, Morne van Eck, Herman Grotius and Brandon Joubert.
We wish them well for the upcoming year and any assistance they need, we as members must give as they are giving up more time and effort than we are.
A special word of thanks was given with much agreement to Graham Brown who has once again given tirelessly to keep the course in great condition under very trying circumstances especially after the deluge of rain that caused such damage.
A betterball Stableford was the game last Wednesday and the two Michaels (as opposed to the two Ronnies) Eley and Marriot walked away with it by scoring 43 points. A five point difference was the second placed score on 38 made by Wayne Simpson and Brian Richards.
The winner’s opposition Geoff Thommasen and Gerrit Meyer had their pockets picked and also just to rub salt in the wound picked up Stone Last. Bob Hall, Johan Barnard and Mike Eley all picked up 2 clubs but no sign of the hidden holes.
Last Saturday started off on a sad note with the death of Rupert Jones. Rupe had not been in good health for a few months, may he rest in peace.
The Umthunzi Hotel was the sponsor once again for last Saturday’s individual Stableford, always well attended and the ladies also made their presence felt. This being so as Lauren Davey strolled round the course and returned 39 points to win a two night stay for her and Andy.
Heera “Doc” Mahabeer won a two-way count out for second place with 36 points and won himself and wife an overnight stay at the hotel. Derek Cowden was the unlucky one and was placed third.
Nearest the pins winning bottles of wine went to: Deanne Jooste 2nd, Daren Greyvenstein 5th and 10th, Geoff Thommasen 13th and Pete Gilliver 17th.
Gary Jones made a two club along with Doc Mahabeer and Pete Gilliver. The ladies weren’t finished as Esme Hadley needed assistance to pick up our Stone. The pub was pretty full last Saturday night as the Scottburgh Athletics Club held its prizegiving function and of course to support the winning Springboks.
On Wednesday it’s time to choose your partner for a combined Stableford and Seeff Properties will be the sponsor for Saturday’s betterball, and the Friday five pin is gathering more players, probably due to the fine weather and it’s a great start to the weekend.
Flyer’s footnote: At the end of the day golf is a sport, a bloodless sport, as long as you don’t count the ulcers.
