Riders and runners head to Scottburgh

The event is on July 31.

Scottburgh will welcome runners and riders to the popular Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend on July 30 and 31.

Competitors have a choice of 20km for the elite racers, with options of 12km and 5km for recreational runners on Saturday (July 30), while the familiar MTB courses will offer 45km for the serious mountain bikers and an accessible 20km option for the everyday riders.

Proceeds from the weekend’s event will towards Cycling4Mobility, the organisation which gives wheelchairs to deserving recipients.

“With both events forming the fourth leg of the Quattro ROAG Series powered by Momentum, the entry list will contain most of the aspirant elite runners and riders in the province,” said Dave Macleod of Gameplan Media.

Well-known road runner Sarah Gray will tackle the 20km trail run.

She previously entered the recent Gooderson Drakensberg Gardens MTB and Trail Run Challenge where she finished as the first woman, and was also second overall in the 20km race.

“I enjoy running at Scottburgh, although I haven’t run there in a few years,” said Sarah.

“From what I can remember we run through the sugar cane plantations and I really enjoyed the course last time I was there. I love trail running and it’s an awesome way to get my mind off training on the roads.”
