Former AmpTramps win betterball Stableford

Save the date for an upcoming wine evening.

I see in the papers that Europe is experiencing a heatwave of sorts and droughts all over. They’re not really used to it and don’t seem to prepare. Our weather is or must be the best in the world… where else do you have winters like ours?

On Wednesday we played a betterball Stableford. The two former AmpTramps Gary Jones and John Mills short circuited everybody with 42 points to win by two. Coming close to them their opposition for the day Bob Hall and Geoff Thommasen, but not close enough and finished runners-up. Only 2 two clubs for the day and John Mills got them both within the first five holes.

Friday was the ‘Glorious twelfth’ in England where the go out and beat the heather hoping to disturb the Famous Grouse and shoot a few for supper. This Low Flyer kept his head well and truly down he knows how the Engelse shoot.

The five pin was a little short probably due to a bit of wind, but great to see two juniors Seth Giraudeau and Sam Diamond out there taking on the seniors. Hayley Gilliver scored 11 points to win with Sam’s dad Mark scoring 8 for second spot. The boys played well and although they didn’t have the most points they still walked off with a packet of almost new Pro V’s to share.

Halfway Toyota is sponsoring a monthly Combined Stableford competition. Inaugural winners were the two Pete’s Gilliver and Morris with 71. The other Gilliver, Jason had the company of Spoekie and ran out runners-up with 67 and third place went to Doc Heera Mahabeer and John Mills with 64.

Jason and Barry Kisten had the only 2 clubs and no sign of the hidden holes. The pub was close to bursting with the lifesaver’s club celebrating their 90th birthday. There was standing room only for the latecomers who watched the rugby and next week will be just as full and remember, we have a Genny so no chance of an Eskom whoopsie.

On Wednesday it’s an Individual Stableford and P&G Construction will be holding their monthly betterball. August 31 is the day to remember as we’ll be having a wine tasting evening. Wines will be available for sampling and purchasing and a light meal will be included in the cost at R150 per person, open to all readers, locals and members.

Flyer’s footnote: After taking your stance it’s too late to worry, the only thing left is to hit the damn thing.
