Wolf Pack wins cricket-bowls league
The league was motivated by Southbroom president, Cleve Walker and was sponsored by Pat Symcox’s Re/Max Coast and Country.
Winning the inaugural Re/Max B20 Cricket-Bowls league at Southbroom Bowling Club was the Wolf Security-sponsored Wolf Pack of Chris Faber, Nora Hill and novice Hylton Cannon, all of Southbroom Bowling Club.
They narrowly edged out Nashua Lightning’s trio of Glyn Evans, Raefe Dyers and his dad Lincoln. The league was motivated by Southbroom president, Cleve Walker and was sponsored by Pat Symcox’s Re/Max Coast and Country.

Twelve teams of three took part in nine rounds, each team comprising two bowlers plus a brand-new beginner or novice player. Each rink has a set of suspended cricket stumps at one end and a scoring mat with 6s, 4s, 2s and singles on the grass at the other end. Each player rolls two bowls to make six for the over. Runs are accumulated, and each wicket knocks two runs off the opponents’ tally.
Pat Symcox, who himself played in the first round and presented the prizes and trophies, and said that Re/Max was heavily involved in community projects including several other lawn bowls competitions.

He thanked all the other teams for entering and for making the league a success.
Symcox also had a comment for the Southbroom ProShop Swinger, Derek James: “The golf course still needs you, Derek!”
A Best Novice trophy was also presented – a difficult call for the selectors as there were many contenders. Teams such as the Haval Drivers, Not Sheep Rams and the JL Panelbeaters’ Finishers sent almost their entire teams to have a try, whereas other teams played the same three throughout.
The award went to the JLP Finishers’ Claudio O’Reilly, who had never been on a bowling green before playing in the B20. He was one of the younger set, but bowls can be played at any age: the winning team’s Nora Hill is 87 and she has no intention of stopping, having just bought herself a new set of bowls.
