It’s almost Sani2C time and once again the cycle race will finish at the first tee at Scotties.
The course will be closed on the weekend of April 29 and 30, but all are welcome to come down to the club and encourage these weekend warriors to the finish line.
The race will be televised. Volunteers are required to assist the cyclists to their transport by driving them in a golf buggy (licence required), down to the fourth fairway, so come along and enjoy the fun.
Last Wednesday’s Individual was a forerunner for Saturday’s Combined. Denis Brown who has been side lined for a couple of weeks came back with a bang and scored 36 points to win by a count out over Geoff Thommasen. Mick Marriot and Roly Tickle both rolled in 2 clubs which reduced their side bet deficit to the captain. Sheldon Govender had a rough day but was suitably rewarded by being presented with the Stone.
Halfway Toyota were the Saturday sponsors for the Combined Stableford and Friday’s gale winds were diminished to a breeze. Denis Brown carried on from where he left off on Wednesday and had Brian Richards as his partner. They came in with 70 points to win by one from last week’s winners John Mills and Barry Kisten on 69.
Father and son duo, Pete and Jason Gilliver managed 61 for third place with Pete spending some time looking for golf balls. John Mills, Barry Kisten, Herman Grotius and Jason with two all were rewarded for their 2 clubs and the hidden holes were again elusive. Danie Marais and Pete Fourie, the sponsor’s representatives were given a round of applause for their efforts and again as they were presented with the Stone.
The borehole is now finished and thanks go to the two Petes, Gilliver and Morris for their initiation of the project and to all sponsors who helped to finalise the job.
Dave and Janet Beckerly are back in town for a few weeks and have graciously sponsored next Saturday’s three ball Alliance with Wednesday being a betterball Stableford.
Flyer’s Footnote: It’s not unusual to find strange things in bunkers. Some players think that the rake provided by the side of the trap is a hazard itself and that they may incur a two stroke penalty if they touch it.
