Winning start for U11 rugby Warriors

The u11s will play 10 games this season.

The South Coast Warriors Rugby Club has entered three teams in Mini Rugby leagues for the year. Playing 15-man, full field rugby, the U11s got off to a winning start against UZM Ministries, beating them 12-0.

Tries were scored by Drew Stott in the first half, the fiery flank sniping through a bunch of players to dot down. In the second half, prop Ruan Smit, showed great pace and agility to break the line and race away for a try under the posts which he duly converted.

The match was played on King’s Park 7 field, (almost) in the shadow of the famous stadium. For many it was only the first or second game of 15 man rugby. In all likelihood, tougher games lie ahead but it was a promising start from a squad that played well as a team.

There were players from numerous local schools, including Suid-Natal Primary, Creston College, Izotsha Primary, Southcity, Margate Primary, Port Edward Primary and home-schoolers.

The U9s won both their games, while the U7s won one and lost one. Not doubt all the players will have gained from the experience.
Practices take place at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds every Wednesday and Friday from 17:30 to 18:30. Matches are played every Sunday, for the next nine weeks.
