Phiwa defends strokeplay title at PSCC

There was a huge turnout for what has become a very popular tournament.

Phiwa Mkhoma scored 81 and 75 to successfully defend the strokeplay title at Port Shepstone Country Club last weekend.

It could so easily have been Gerry Terblanche’s turn but an unfortunate seven on the 17th saw his lead slip and he finished two behind Phiwa. Maybe next year for the popular player.

A division honours went to Kalvin Parsons on a pair of 79s, counting out Gerry, who had 78 and 80. Neil Bester was third on 78 and 82.
Super steady Santhos Baskali won the B division on 81 and 89, with Hans Stols second on 83 and 92. Third was Smittie Stieger on 89 and 87.

Basil King clinched the C division on 39 and 33, from Mark Smith on 36 and 34. Sheldon van der Merwe was third on two 34s.
Gavin van Wyk won best overall nett on 75 and 70 as well as Best Senior.

The tournament was very well supported, with many Coastal members from out of town making the trip to play.

The club was incredibly busy on the Friday night, with Radio Rush playing, and many visitors enjoying the atmosphere.
Heidi Morom won the joker jackpot – a cool R52 000.

There was live music on Saturday from Adelei Jade and on Sunday from Christopher Pillay.
The club was again very busy. Terry McGovern won the raffle where more than R5000 was raised.

On a sad note, members mourned very popular member Cilla Lindsay who died last weekend.
