Gorgeous May weather welcomes this year’s Shoreline Challenge
The challenge is to walk from Port Shepstone to Port Edward along the beach for most of the way.
An impressive 102 walkers supported the first leg of the WIN Walking in Nature Shoreline Challenge series held last Sunday.

The 5.5km walk was along the pretty shoreline from Oslo Beach to Shelly Beach.
Thirteen black bags of rubbish were collected, and more than 100 brekkie buns were sold, with funds going to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI). “The weather was just perfect,” said Mzimkhulu Honorary Officer Maxine Willemse.
“We are also grateful to have the Boogie Babes joining us on all eight legs as they have been a part of the South Coast beach clean-up for many years now,” she said.
The Shoreline Challenge is an annual community event organised by the Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers.

The challenge is to walk from Port Shepstone to Port Edward, along the beach for most of the way. It is broken down into eight different walks of between 5km to 7km, which is held on a Sunday over the course of four months from May to August.
Willemse said that this year’s goal is to collect enough rubbish to fill a large sculpture, which local artist Keith Gait-Smith will be constructing and filling with the trash collected. So watch this space! An example of Gait-Smith’s amazing work can be seen at The Earth Shed in Ramsgate.

Willemse said the Honorary Officers thank everyone for their support and they hope for a great turn-out for the second leg from Shelly Beach to Lucien Beach on Sunday, May 26.
