Umkomaas takes Frog title at Interclub

It was a hotly contested tournament, played over three courses in four divisions.

Viv Naicker, his son Tash, and Martin du Plessis of Umkomaas Golf Club have won the Frog title at the KZN Interclub golf tournament.

They did this in emphatic fashion, defeating Maidstone F2 2,5-0,5 in the semi-final and Maidstone F1 3-0 in the final.

It’s never totally comfortable when winning a golf event, but this was relatively stress-free. The tournament was held at Port Shepstone, Margate and Southbroom.

The A division team (Damien O’Connell, Noel Parsonage and Greg Thiel) battled gamely but failed to make the top four for the matchplay, ultimately won by Southbroom (Gavin Sole, Jean-Marc Bouic and Cameron Olivant) with Kloof runners-up.

Southbroom A2 won the Alliance, represented by Graham Sole, Cyprian Xolo and Jan Nqoko.

The B division was won by Ethekweni over Drak Gardens, and the Alliance by Margate CC, namely Conrad Boonzaier, Andries Fourie and Rupert Niebuhr.

The Frog Alliance was won by Mount Edgecombe.

In the Senior Frog section, Selborne Park (Adrian van Vuuren, Tim McGregor and Tony Outram) missed out on the matchplay but bounced back on the Sunday to win the Alliance. Riverside SF2 beat Riverside SF4 in the final of this division.
