Masters tennis comes to Ugu region
Age groups range from 30 upwards, in increments of five years, with the most senior age group being 85+.
Ugu Tennis Association is set to host the ProKennex Ugu Masters from December 5 to 8. It’s a Tennis South Africa tournament and will be played at Uvongo and Umtentweni tennis clubs.
At the time of writing, there were around 50 entrants, with many coming from further afield. There are obviously quite a few locally, including many from Southbroom and Tweni clubs. Deadline date for entries was November 28.
The tournament counts for ranking points, and thus, players can earn these points towards possibly making provincial and national teams in their respective age groups.
Players can enter singles, doubles, mixed doubles, or all or a combination of the three.
Singles will most likely be played in the morning, followed by doubles in the late morning, with mixed doubles in the afternoon.
Age groups range from 30 upwards, in increments of five years, with the most senior age group being 85+.
Those who have entered so far include Rob van der Schyff, Raj Naganna, Deirdre Algie, Ian Ackerman, André Hofman, Renee Purtell, Johan van Niekerk, Colin Barker, Martyn Nagtegaal, Zelda Smook, Brendan Els, Darral Pillay, Naren Sunker, Bjorn Wikstrom, Foxy Norton, Sharon van der Schyff, Richard Short, Cathy Kirton, Liesl Smith, Trevor Pillay, Deanne Purtell and Sharn Zietsman.
