Cameron’s golf star continues to shine
He produced two wins and a second-place finish in three junior tournaments held on the South Coast in early January.

Cameron Olivant of Port Shepstone Country Club has spent as much time as possible on the golf course this holiday.
The teenager, who will turn 16 in April, produced two wins and a second-place finish in three junior tournaments held on the South Coast in early January.
He welcomed the new year with a win at Southbroom Golf Club on January 2, shooting two under par 70 to win.
The next day, it was down to the Wild Coast Sun, where he carded three over par 73 to finish in tie for second with Ryan Fisher (Mount Edgecombe CC). The winner was Daniel Tarr (Kloof CC) on 71.
He rounded things off with a slightly fortunate win at San Lameer CC. He scored two-under par 70 to tie with Tylo Naidoo (Toti).
There was no playoff, and Cameron was announced the winner thanks to his better back nine – his scores were 36 and 34 compared to Tylo’s 32 and 38.
Cameron also enjoyed seeing Daniel Bennett play. Daniel’s father, Neil, is in charge of junior golf for the KZN Golf Union.
Daniel, now too old for junior golf, has been one of the country’s top amateurs but enjoyed alongside to keep his game sharp.
Cameron wasn’t the only local junior who teed it up in these tournaments.
Talan Roos (Southbroom) showed some promise with scores of 89 at Southbroom, 94 at Wild Coast and 90 at San Lameer.
The golf bug has bitten in a big way, and will only be a matter of time before he starts shooting scores in the low 80s and then 70s.
He was runner-up in the U13 division at Southbroom and the Wild Coast and runner-up overall for the three days in the U13 division.
Kiara Naicker (Port Shepstone CC) has also been making steady progress. She scored 85 at Southbroom, 96 at the Wild Coast and 94 at San Lameer.
She won the C division in all three. Lishen Govender, also Port Shepstone CC, was runner-up.
Edward Bense of Margate CC won the B division in the Southbroom tournament, scoring 82.
Others to take part included Jared Botha, Grant Richards and Savir Ghingai.
For some, it was a sharp learning curve but a wonderful experience nonetheless.
It will be interesting to see the progress of these youngsters.
