Summer fishing season heats up

The shoreline has been busy over the past few weeks with a number of good catches.

2025 is in, and anglers across the South Coast are wished well, from seasoned experts to those just starting their fishing journey.

Fishing has been good, with shad on the bite and some good-sized fish caught between Port Shepstone and Mtwalume.

Some bronze bream and rockcod were also caught, and deep-sea anglers reeled in tuna.

Amazingly, dorado has also been caught and reported to be the stars of the show, with some good catches coming in from deep sea fishing.

Brendon Schutte had an excellent run with dorado caught off his kayak between Umtentweni and Shelly Beach. His biggest dorado weighed in at about 10kg. All were caught using live bait or sardines.

Prelin Moodley of Marburg had a good day as he hauled in three kingfish at his favourite fishing spot.

Eckhardt Potgieter recently got back from New Zealand after a well-deserved holiday. After a few days break to get over the jet lag, he went fishing on Tuesday this week and bagged his first bronze bream for the year. Well done, Eckhardt, and welcome back home.

For now, the summer season is in full swing, and it looks like the South Coast is the place to be. So, anglers, get ready to chase those big catches and test your fishing tackle.

Remember, responsible fishing is keeping the shoreline as clean as possible and abiding by the bag limits.
