Fans meet and greet cricket stars

Local business boosts cricket and community development with the Durban Super Giants cricket team.

South Coasters had the privilege of meeting and greeting three international cricketers at the Lockprest Arena at Fairview Terrace in Port Shepstone recently.

Heinrich Klaasen, Wiaan Mulder and Naveen-ul-Haq, who play for the Durban Super Giants (DSG) and are competing in the SA 20 cricket competition, were brought down by local auditing firm Lockhat Incorporated.

Local schools, clients and friends were invited to meet and greet the DSG cricketers. They signed autographs, took photos with fans and showed off some batting, bowling and wicketkeeping skills.

A multi-year sponsorship deal, initiated a few years ago at the team’s request, reflects the firm’s dedication to fostering the growth of cricket in South Africa. The company’s logo proudly features on the back of the team’s helmets, symbolising the partnership. Beyond the financial support, the firm hosts regular events with the players, building strong connections between the business, the sport, and the community.

“Our sponsorship aligns perfectly with our corporate social responsibility goals,” said the firm’s management.

“We aim to revive interest in cricket, a sport that has long been a source of pride for South Africa. This initiative not only supports the players and the league but also brings the community closer together,” said managing director Imraan Lockhat.

“Our ultimate goal is to inspire change and growth, both on and off the cricket field. By supporting local sport and offering opportunities for professional development, we hope to contribute meaningfully to the community while positioning our firm as a forward-thinking, innovative leader in the business sector.”
