Along the South African coastline, kingfish, also known as giant trevally (GT) can be found, particularly around the KZN coast, where they are most commonly targeted during the annual Sardine Run, moving into the area during the winter months to feed on the baitfish. They are less common further south but can still be found in certain estuaries and coastal areas depending on the species of kingfish.

Nandus Botha from Anerley caught a 10.5kg kingfish recently. He said the fight was epic and he caught his kingfish on live bait.
Also, Jezay Moodley caught and released his 3kg kingfish recently.
There have been reports of some good-sized shad and kob being caught on the South Coast early in the morning, other than that let’s hope for a good run this weekend.
Meanwhile, the North Coast and offshore areas are seeing excellent dorado action, along with tuna and sailfish sightings.
