
Active and fit South Coasters took up the challenge to swim in this year’s aQuellé Midmar Mile in Howick.
The race is recognised as the world’s largest open water swimming event. Over 12 000 swimmers of all abilities add this iconic event to their list of accomplishments.

Peter Koegelenberg (12) from Sea Park did exceptionally well. He swam the race in 25.25 minutes coming 15th in the U12 and 39th in the U13 and U30 and over age groups.

The results for Blue Ocean Aquatics Swimming Club are as follows: Kirsty Koegelenberg (14): 27.53; Mandy Koegelenberg (47): 28.44; Skyla Nadauld (11): 33:00; Reece Greco (13): 36:00; Grayson Gerco (10): 36:00; Zuriel Pakkiri (12) and Megan Bemelman (8) were congratulated on swimming their first Midmar.

The club’s swimming coach, Mandy, said everyone braved the waters with determination and enthusiasm, they showcased incredible resilience and sportsmanship, making the club shine at one of the world’s most renowned open-water swimming events.

“Whether it was their first time or they were seasoned participants, each swimmer gave it their all, and their achievements are truly inspiring. Congratulations to every swimmer, and a special shoutout to the families and friends who not only swam, but also cheered, encouraged and made this experience even more memorable,” she said.
