Marvellous Maeve celebrates her 90th birthday

Maeve has shown that golf is indeed the game of a lifetime.

Southbroom Golf Club ladies’ section was delighted to celebrate the 90th birthday of a longstanding member and one of the many Swallows, Maeve Mullane.

After Saturday golf on February 8, the ladies gathered in Mulligans to wish Maeve sincere congratulations on her milestone birthday, which she celebrated on February 7.

A wonderful sharing of Maeve and her friendly, generous and caring personality was enjoyed by all.

Two members generously donated special cakes for the occasion. Candida Amm’s white forest cake was delicious; Augustine D’Ewes provided the most spectacular carrot cake.

The decoration was magnificent as it included a book made of rice paper comprising photographs of Maeve’s life, in particular her participation in the annual Nationals vs Internationals competition sponsored by Maeve.

This competition was characterised by carefully selected superb prizes brought to Southbroom by Maeve.

Maeve plays a mean game of golf and, despite her age, is able to remain competitive and is often amongst the winners.

She is an inspiration to all and has played a pivotal role in ladies’ golf.

For many years, when she visited Southbroom from her Irish home, Maeve has been an active participant in golf competitions and has played a great deal of social golf with the ladies and with her husband, John.

She is wished a healthy future, including plenty of golf.
