Eight young Ugu Tennis Association players experienced probably some of the toughest tennis they’ve faced in their lives so far. The U13 teams, boys and girls, took part in the highly competitive KZN Schools Inter-District Tournament in Pietermaritzburg last weekend. They won two of four rounds and displayed incredible grit and determination.
“Every member of the team played their hearts out and gave their all,” said UTA chairperson Sharon van der Schyff.
She mentioned Brooklyn Smith and Olivia Browne for their outstanding doubles play, where they won all their matches.
In addition, she singled out Emma Fortmann, who fought like a trojan to win all her singles matches. The boys’ team comprised Zakai Gilling, Alek Wagner, Christiaan Otto and Nate Beekman. Girls were Brooklyn Smith, Olivia Browne, Emma Fortmann and Lily Dyer.
