Phiwa, Kim claim club champ titles

There was an incredibly festive vibe at the club over the weekend.

Festive fun was the order of the weekend at Port Shepstone Country Club, with club champs combining with St Patrick’s Day. Well, almost.

There was a beer and brandy fest sponsored by Heineken and KWV last Friday to greet players and ease nerves, plus a putt-putt course and chipping competition organised by EMA Group, which all added to the vibe.

Ettienne Kruger wins the C-division.

This was won by apprentice pro James Coull. Clearly, his short game is better than his current ‘lion mane’ hairstyle.

In more serious news, the ladies’ club champs saw Kim Strauss, the runaway winner, again.

Natasha Cotterell, also known for her tennis skills, won the bronze division.

The men’s champs, sponsored by Bendigo Electrical and Macsharp Timbers, saw multiple past winner Phiwa Mkhoma see off hot favourite Cameron Olivant to card 71 and 72 and win by four.

Cameron scored 73 and 74, somewhat disappointing for the 15-year-old by his recent standards. Jaques Stander was next.

Ever steady Santhos Baskali won the B division on a two-day score of 165 from Shaan Stander.

Ettienne Kruger won the C-division, with Rob Vogt the runner-up.

In third were George Bowie and Phiwa Mkhoma on 69 points.
