MARGATE
Margate Bowling Club, with kind assistance from Riverside Bowling Club, who allowed the use of one of their greens, was proud to be able to host their 57th Margate Week bowls tournament from April 28 to May 3.
Main sponsor was Hibiscus Retirement Villages, represented by CEO Andrew Crooks, who had the honour of delivering the first bowl.
This heralded the opening of the tournament which comprised 128 players, both local and from various provinces in South Africa.
They enjoyed tightly contested games over the five days and it was heart-warming to see old friendships renewed and new ones forged.
All-in-all, it was a most successful week of bowls enjoyed by all and the weather could not have been kinder.
Sincere thanks were extended to all who contributed towards making this event both successful and most enjoyable.
Winners were Hot Stuff, namely Tiens Zietsmann, Paul Mundell, St John Roodt and Kobie Ritchie.
In second place were Wicker’s World, comprising Julie Walker, Cleve Walker, Tony Watson and Ian Hunter.
Third place went to 2 Jacks and 2 Kitties, aka Sheila Smith, Coenie Scheepers, Hester Scheepers and Ettienne Smith.
