Scottburgh majorettes win gold and bronze medals
The team needs the public's help with donations to get them to nationals.
The Mid South Coast Crew has made the Umdoni community proud with their latest achievements in the sport.
The team participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Majorette and Cheerleading Association finals which was split into two events.
Part one was hosted by the Highway Majorette Club at Forest View Primary on June 7, and part two was hosted by The Black Sea at Bayview Sports Grounds on June 14.
At the end of these events, the crew achieved five gold and three bronze medals.
Results are as follows:
Primary:
Cheer Pom Group – bronze
Cheer Pom Double – bronze
Cheer Hit Hop Group – bronze
Cheer Hip Hop Double – gold
High – KZN Solo Champion
Majorette Flag/Double Flag Solo – gold
Majorette Mace Solo – gold
Tertiary – KZN Performance Cheer Champions
Cheer Pom Group – gold
Cheer Hip Hop Double – gold
The team is currently busy raising funds to get to nationals at the Recreational Ground in Oudtshoorn, from July 4-12.
They will be competing in the Performance Cheerleading section of the competition; and they also have the opportunity to attend the International Cheer Union 2025 African Cheerleading Championships on July 6.
The total cost for the trip is R95 600. This amount will cover transport, accommodation, meals and competition entry fees.
Any extra funding will be used for additional activities for the girls to make the experience more memorable, purchasing a variety of props, uniforms and competition essentials (including kit bags).
Mid South Coast Crew is an independent development team. The athletes attend various schools and are from different backgrounds.
Majorettes and performance cheerleading teaches them to work together and unite under a team sport.
The athletes practise for many hours to fine-tune their displays, which include multiple props, formations and footwork, combining dance and drill moves to make up marches, displays and dances.
