Winter league glory for Snipers

There was some fantastic cricket played during the tournament.

Ndu Shusha was the hero of the day, holding his nerve just enough to bowl Snipers to victory in a thrilling match last Saturday.

This was in the final of the Southern KZN U13 Winter Cricket League, held at Southcity in Ramsgate and contested between Snipers and Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA).

In the end, Snipers won by three runs, with Ndu picking up three wickets in the death overs.

Snipers made 128 all out in 20 overs, while CMCA ended up on 125 for 8.

Earlier in the day Ndu kept the Snipers’ innings together after Christiaan Otto (20) and Damion Bezuidenhout (26) had fallen. All this despite taking a blow to the helmet.

But it wasn’t only about him.

There were players, on both sides, who produced some sparkling, entertaining cricket throughout the week.

In the premier A section, Snipers, Challengers and CMCA played each other twice to decide who would progress to the final.

All the games were evenly contested, making for some wonderful spectator value.

In the championship B league, the Chargers, captained by Jesse Langton, showed superb team spirit and really appeared to be enjoying their cricket.

They triumphed over a young, talented Sluipskutters team in the final played earlier in the day.

Saien Chetty led them home with ball and bat.

There was some good play from the other teams, namely Margate Spartans, Port Shepstone Hub, Nizanebaaz and CMCA Jaguars (girls).
