Winter cricket sees youngsters thrive

The matches were played in good spirit.

Smashing sixes and knocking out stumps seemed all a bit too easy for the Southern KZN U19 cricket team as they produced three emphatic victories against Sportweni touring teams this holiday.

It would seem practising at Creston College’s new nets has helped them bring out their best.

First up was a nine wicket win against Hartbeespoort.

The visitors were bowled out for 63 with Jordan Gopaul taking 3-5, Sahl Peerbhay 2-4 and Vuvu Gumede 2-12.

In reply, Skzn made 65-1 in quick time, with runs scored by Marcel du Toit 22* and Justin Gopaul 21*.

Jordan Gopaul made 104, Justin Gopaul 62 and Shivaar Sivpersad 54.

In reply, Oosterland could only muster 94 for 7, with Shivaar Sivpersad claiming 3-19 and Sahl Peerbhay 2-3.
