Scottburgh’s Lepront siblings prep for world surfing games in El Salvador

This will run from September 5-14.

The Board of Directors of Surfing South Africa has just announced the South African Open Surfing team for the Surf City, El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games.

This will run from September 5-14, and the team will consist of three men and three women.

Scottburgh’s powerful goofy footer Luc Lepront, a former SA Junior team member will earn his first Open Team Cap for South Africa. Joining him are 2025 WSL Challenger Series campaigner and East London resident Thomas Lindhorst as well as Port St Johns Avuyile Ndamase, who now resides in Durban and will also receive his first National Cap.

All three of the Open Men are goofy footers and the punchy beach break off La Bocana will suit their surfing perfectly as the wave offers shorter lefts and longer rights that will play to their back-hand strengths.

The event will also take place at the long right-hand point break of El Sunzal, a great wave to showcase their strong back-hand surfing.

For the women, Louise Lepront, goofy footer, will join her brother Luc and also receive her first Open Team Cap.

The other two women will be Cape Town born, but Australian based Jessie van Niekerk, currently campaigning on the WSL Challenger Series and the only natural footer in the team will receive her first National Cap; and Cape Town’s Natasha van Greunen will receive another National Cap for being selected as a 2025 team member.
