Port Shepstone Country Club’s golf league team still have a chance of winning the 2025 edition of the Southern KZN Handicap League.
They overcame Selborne Park 7,5-4,5 at Port Shepstone CC last Sunday to keep their hopes alive.
The match was played in sunny weather, where the morning greensomes were taken 2,5-1,5 by the hosts.
Gerald Koch/Allan Clark beat Myles Poole/Julius Dlamini 1-up.
Theo van Rooyen/Ian Stewart lost to Braam Stiglingh/Andrew Sharp 3/1.
Gavin van Wyk/Johann Janse van Rensburg beat Adrian van Vuuren/Marno Langeveldt 3/2.
Francois du Toit/Cameron Olivant halved with Darryl Herman/Tiaan Bekker to give Port Shepstone a crucial edge going in to the singles.
In the singles, Koch lost to Poole 5/4 while Clark beat Dlamini 1-up.
In the next game, Stewart beat Stiglingh 4/3 and Van Rooyen halved with Sharp.
Following them, Janse van Rensburg lost to Van Vuuren 4/3 and Van Wyk beat Langeveldt 7/6.
In the final fourball, Du Toit halved with Bekker and Olivant overcame Herman 3/2.
The last game of the season takes place at Southbroom on Sunday, August 31 where the hosts and log leaders play luckless Selborne Park.
Port Shepstone play Margate, with both needing to win to have any chance of taking the trophy should Southbroom lose (which Port Shepstone would need) or lose/half, in the case of Margate.
It’s all to play for and should make for an exciting finish.
Of course, Southbroom will want to avoid a plethora of permutations and simply win the match comfortably, thereby avoiding the need for complicated calculations.
LOG
Southbroom 5 (20)
Margate 4 (21,5)
Umdoni Park 4 (21)
Port Shepstone 3 (19)
Selborne Park 0 (14,5)
