Padel tournament a big win for Ivungu River Conservancy

After the tournament winners had received their well-earned applause, another battle - an auction - took place off-court.

After a closely fought final, Team Hornbills players, Bernat Kruger and Sean Wilson, emerged the winners of the Hotshots Round and overall winners of the successful second annual South Coast Padel Ivungu River Conservancy fundraising padel tournament.

To earn their title they had to fight off a strong challenge from the other Hot Shots finalists, Maxine and Nicky Momberg of Team Swallows, who didn’t make their win an easy one.

The action-packed Good Sports final featuring Team Barbets – Bruce Barnes and Anthony Knowles and Team Shrikes – Moira King and Greg Ball was just as exciting, the Barbets eventually taking the lead.

After the tournament winners had received their well-earned applause, another battle took place off-court. Generous sponsors had outdone themselves, donating wonderful items for the post-match charity auction that is part of this annual tournament.

Renowned South Coast auctioneer Louis Boshoff conducted the auction and ensured that fair prices were obtained to help fill the conservancy’s coffers. Competitors and spectators also helped to do this by supporting Ruth Clarke and Dave Lucey, who spent the day serving up delicious boerewors rolls (with Ruth’s famous relish) the proceeds from these sales also going to the conservancy.

The chairperson of the conservancy, Bill Davis, thanked all the players for their wonderful support, the incredibly generous sponsors and his hardworking committee.

Special thanks went to Sarah Unsworth, who had organised this major fundraiser and to Ross MacKay of South Coast Padel, who hosted the tournament.
