Tweni 2’s a blast on South Coast

It was a well-loved local gathering that raised funds for community initiatives.

Does the weather ever affect surfers from riding waves? No siree, a number of surfers came out regardless, as their playground never stops supplying. It was a total community beach vibe at Tweni2’s Summer Retro 5000 recently, where surfers took up the challenge of riding decades old surfboards, trying to get the best vibe and entertain the crowds.

Kay Holt, one of the local surfing heroes made her way home for the compo. The event was honoured to have South Coast Legends, Tim and Edie Millward.

Winners of the Single Fin division, local surfer Justy Maisch, with up-and-coming youngster and South Coaster Jordy Boshoff showing off to the oldies with his display of Twin Fin riding.

Another young local Thomas Gouws won the ‘Expression Session’, Bella Burton took home the Maisch Fins for the most dedication to progression and Gary Cox, also an original local, ‘Soul-surfed’ his way to the Leaf Technologies Blue Tooth Speaker and goodies.

The Apnea Training Voucher was awarded to Philip Smith for the most dedicated surfer, while Hayley Maisch scored the Holmes Brothers voucher for the best dressed.

The early-bird ticket sales prize of a 20kg lamb from Lindsay Eggs and a R2 000 PKS Liquors t/as Venture Inn Bottle Store was won by Glen Smit, with many other prizes from KA Fitness Centre, KFC, Umdladlo Lodge, Tiago’s, Orca’s and Monster went to attendees.

There was also beach soccer which contributed to the festivities. A grom tag event added another dimension, where any food bought received a ticket for a grom to win a GVW custom board. Kaira Horlock was the lucky youngster who gets a brand-new board.

Funky Uncle Charlies Kittens and Shaun Wulf headed the line-up of music. They were followed by Idol’s winner Jason Hartman and brother Scottie who spiced up the vibe. Classic rock band, and local ‘favs’, Chewing the Hornet rocked the event, preceding head-liner Veranda Panda who took the event to another level. DJs, My Name is Jeff, Savage Koala and Courtzy ended the evening with their techno vibes wrapping up another classic Tweni2’s event.

“All in all, it was a case of no matter the weather, we’ll all get together. Organisers, Pete Horlock and Kate Johnson thanked the South Coast community for their wonderful support,” said Lindy Horlock.

All proceeds support the Tweni Tidy Towns, Ugu Surfriders and Sports Kids.
