Southbroom golfer off to solid start

The veteran has found top gear quickly.

Gavin Sole (Southbroom) has started the year in style with a smooth 68 at Selborne Park to win the first game on the KZN Mid-Amateur calendar for the year.

The Big Fish, as he is nicknamed, will be pleased with this effort, coming on a hot and windy day, and especially so as the East Griqualand Open and San Lameer Open approach.

Runner-up at Selborne was Terence Hope (Umhlali) on 71, followed by Mark Cowie (Toti) and Greg Smith on 73, Gitesh Maharaj (Toti) and Grant Olivier (Drak Gardens) on 74.

Three tied on 76, namely Jean-Marc Bouic (Southbroom), Mike Algie (Southbroom) and Jan McDermott (Umdoni).

Jason Pennefather (Richards Bay) and Ross van Wyk (Mount Edgecombe) had 77s, with Tiaan Bekker (Selborne Park) on 78.

The B-division was won by Denzel Ramiah (Greater Durban), from André James (Durban GC).
