Mad Hatter hilarity at tennis mixed
The was all the usual light-hearted banter on the day.
Fancy hats and/or caps were the order of the day as the Ugu Tennis Association Madhatter Mixed. This took place across two groups – gold at Uvongo and green at Douglas Mitchell recently.
Rain had threatened to wash things out, but it cleared and turned out to be a great day for tennis. There was a fun element this year with partners drawn out of hat.
“We had some awesome tennis after the rainy start,” said convenor Sharon van der Schyff.
Best hat prizes went to Geraldine Thompson (Uvongo) and Colin Barker (Tweni).
Gold group winners were Charl van Niekerk (Tweni) and Jenny Senneck (Southbroom). Runners-up were Allan Collocott (Southbroom) and Liesl Smith (Tweni).
Green group winners were Ralph Burls (Uvongo) and B
ernat Kruger (Southbroom).
Runners-up were: Augustine Tugli (Uvongo) and Heloise Cloete (Douglas Mitchell).
Best hats went to Rob van der Schyff (Southbroom) and Claire Laine (Southbroom).
Ugu tennis provided the snacks at both venues, supplemented by Cathy Kirton’s famous cakes.
