New record for Thirsty Thursday trail run in Pennington
Winding single tracks, coastal forest, sweeping views and the unmistakable sounds of nature combine to create an unforgettable experience.
The trail running community in Pennington reached a new milestone last week as a record 147 runners and walkers gathered for the ever-popular Thirsty Thursday Trail Run at the Umdoni Park Golf Course.
The turnout marked the biggest attendance yet for the weekly event – and what a night it was!
The vibe was electric, the trails were overflowing, and the laughter, chat and banter will certainly go down as one for the record books. From first-timers nervously lining up at the start to seasoned trail lovers chasing their weekly fix, the spirit of community was on full display.
What started as a relaxed local get-together has steadily grown in popularity, and it’s safe to say it’s developed into the hottest trail run on the South Coast – a place to be seen. Each week, more runners and walkers arrive to experience the magic for themselves.
Set against the backdrop of a beautiful South Coast summer evening, participants were reminded once again why Umdoni Park is considered a true jewel of the coastline.
Winding single tracks, coastal forest, sweeping views and the unmistakable sounds of nature combine to create an experience that simply cannot be captured in photographs.
“Every once in a while life gives you an experience that you should not miss,” said one regular runner.
“The sights and sounds of the Umdoni trails are exactly that – photos don’t do it justice.”
Thirsty Thursday takes place every week at 17:30 and offers distances of 3km, 5km, 8km and 10km. Entry is free, and runners and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome.
If the record-breaking turnout is anything to go by, the South Coast trail running community is alive, thriving and growing fast.
